II. School Climate

School Safety Plan

This section provides information about the school's comprehensive safety plan.

The School Safety Plan is reviewed annually by the School Site Council and Springville School Staff.

School Discipline Practices

This section provides information about the school's efforts to create and maintain a positive learning environment, including the school's use of disciplinary strategies.

The classroom teachers and instructional aides provide an atmosphere that encourages the development of positive self-image, high self-esteem and increased responsibility for personal and social interactions. Additional student guidance and counseling support are provided by a number of specially trained school and county personnel including:

Family Services Worker (One day per week)
County School Psychologist (One day per week).
Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention Counselor.

Friday Night Live drug prevention program.

A Student Study Team meets to discuss personal, academic and social needs of individual students. This team is made up of all adults concerned with the student's school performance, including parents. Student needs and strengths are identified. Teacher concerns, interventions, and unanswered questions are reviewed. Actions and time lines are established for future interventions. The Superintendent/Designee monitors implementation and follow up.

Good discipline is really another word for respect for authority, respect for others, respect for self, and respect for rules that support a healthy environment for learning. Discipline is an attitude, which begins at home, is reinforced at school, and is applied through life. Because attitudes about discipline are learned from school and home experiences, Springville School has established a comprehensive approach to discipline that includes a partnership with parents.

The Superintendent practices a counseling approach to student discipline that reinforces the student's accountability for their actions and teaches viable alternatives for handling difficult social and personal interactions.
